Trip to Ghana
September 2005
Iyalode Yeyefini and several members of IIASK, Inc. journeyed to Ghana, West Afrika in September
2005. Our trip was glorious, it was all that Obatala promised and more than we could have
imagined.

One of several goals for the trip was to establish long tern productive relationships with priests so
that we would be able to gain mutual spiritual benefits. This goal was met by our meeting several
Akan priests and mystics. We have also committed to helping two schools as well as supporting
many children with their school tuition.

On September 11, 2005 Iyalode Yeyefini, Seestah Imahkus, Nzingah Ababio, and IIASK, Inc. priest
members visited the Cape Coast Castle Dungeon and conducted the required rituals of feeding
our ancestors in the dungeons with the assistance of Nana Kobina, the resident priest that keeps
the Shrine of Nana Tabir in the Male Dungeon. During the ceremony in the place where the babies
were born in the Women's Dungeon the ancestors spoke through Iyalode Yeyefini instructing us
to erect a small shrine for the women and children. We did so using the existing stones lying on
the floor of the castle dungeon. Following these events Seestah Imahkus has petitioned the
appropriate Ghanaian officials requesting that a permanent shrine be erected in the sacred space
of the women and children so that the feminine principle will be preserved and honored.

For those of us who had never visited a slave dungeon in West Afrika, it was an overpowering
spiritual and emotional experience to stand in the place where millions of our ancestors suffered
and where millions were murdered. The reality of the horrors our ancestors endured was so
pungent that our very souls wept. The visit also included walking through the “door of return”
which was empowering because the enslavers said that we would never return yet we did just
that.  Our hope is to annually return to West Afrika.
